In 1986 a Florida electronic engineer took over HBO's airwaves while they were showing the movie, 'The Falcon and the Snowman' and viewers were left watching this...
This lasted for four and a half minutes and was a protest against the high fees of premium cable subscription. The message read:
GOODEVENING HBO
FROM CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT
$12.95/MONTH ?
NO WAY !
John R. MacDougall ended up paying a $5000 fine and serving one year probation for the stunt.
He was right, though: $12.95 is $25.00 today (by inflation). It may have been a good movie but that's too much to pay to watch, 'The Falcon and the Snowman.'
